JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.

(From Out- Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, October 31. Tlie engineering students of the Wanganui Technical School have prepared a very fine exhibit for tho Palinerston and Wanganui shows.- This comprises (in addition to tools, etc.) several oil engines. Some of these arc as high as eight horsepower, and were constructed to the last detail-by the boys from their own drawings. Altogether the exhibit is a veryfair testimony to the value of the • instruction which the school's engineering department is affording to students representing all provinces of tho southern part of this island. Mr. Leslie Reynolds, consulting engineer to the Wanganui Harbour Board, is at present engaged on a systematic inspection of works here, and will embody the result of his observations in a comprehensive report, which he will submit shortly. At a meeting of the old members of the Alexandra Mounted 'Bifles and Alexandra Cavalry (old name of corps), it was resolved to form an association for the double purpose of perpetuating old comradeship and encouraging present members by donations for competition, and also by arranging matches between past and present members. Colonel Sommerville was elected patron, T. D. Cummins president, and Captain Morgan secretary.
