JOURNALISTS' INSTITUTE.
ANNUAL MEETING. There was a fairly.large attendance at the eighteenth- annual meeting of tha New Zealand Institute of Journalists, which was held'at the. "Evening Post" Office yesterday, the president, Mr. M. C. Keane, being in the chair. The Christclmrch branch wrote expressing its appreciation of the suggestion by' the AYellington branch that the headquarters should be transferred to Christchurch. for nest year, ■ but stating that it felt that it would be undesirable •to effect any change. of the kind thia year. A fetter was received from the Wellington branch offering assistance, up to £W, towards the cost of still further strengthening the institute. It was decided to recommend the incoming council to prepare a report regarding the directions in which the institute could extend its -activities and the amount of funds that might ,be necessary for carrying out the programme. It was also agreed .to urge the council to keep in close touch with newspaper proprietors with a view to getting early information as to vacant positions. A recommendation that the council should consider the question of issuing a periodical was approved. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. F. J. Earle ■ ("Evening Post"); vice-presidents, Messrs. W. H. Graham (Christchurch "Press"), W. J. Penn ("Taranaki Herald"), J. J. Grealish ("Evening Post"); honorary secretary, Mr. J. A. Mackay (Dominion); honorary treasurer, Mr. G. L. Gilmour ("New Zealand Times"); honorary auditor. Mr. C. E. Wheeler ('-Now Zealand Times").
