A BRILLIANT RECEPTION.

WELCOME AT THE CITY HALL. MANY DISTINGUISHED VISITORS. (Rec. November 1, 1.5 a.m.) Cape Town, October 31. The Royal party landed and drove to the City Hall. Thoy were escorted by the hussars through dense, cheering crowds. The streets were magnificently decorated. Lord Gladstone headed the procession, and was escorted by a company of Capo Mounted Rifles.The Mayor welcomed the Royal visitors at the hall, which was densely packed, among those present being General Botha, Lord Methuen, Dr. Jameson, General Delarey, Lord de Villiers (Chief Justice), and other Ministers and Administrators. Mr. Fisher (Prime Minister of Austarlia), and Mr. Fowlds (New Zealand Minister for Educatidn), and Mr. Lomioux (Canadian Postmaster-General), were also present, and the brilliant gathoring included othor notabilities. The Duke of Connaught had previously received Messrs.- Fisher, Fowlds, and Lemieux, with a few other distinguished persons aboard the steamer.

Renter's description of the South African pageant stated:—"The majestic Table Mountain in the background and the beautiful bay in the foreground formed a picturesque setting, to the pageant. Noteworthy was,the reproduction of Van Riebeck landing at the identical spot where he originally landed. A facsimile of the original vessel aided the pageant master in his arrangement of the scenes.

MB. FISHER INTERVIEWED. ADDRESS FOR MR. FOWLDS. Cape Town, October 30. Mr. Fisher, Commonwealth Prime Minister, has' arrived hore to take part in the Union celebrations. Mr. Fisher, interviewed by Rcuter's Agency, conveyed greetings 'from the Australian people. "We are," he said, "delighted with what South Africa has done, and are sure you are on the right lines. We wish you every possible success." Mr. Malan, Union Minister for Education, and local Labourites welcomed Mr. Fisher and Mr. Fowlds, New Zealand's Minister for Education. Th'e latter was presented with an address.
