SALE OF RIPPLE COMPLETED. The sale of the well-known Chatham Islands trading steamer Hippie has been completed. The vessel will change her colour from black to green, and her funnel will bo painted yellow with a black top. The Itipplo was brought out of dock at Lyttelton yesterday, and it is intended by tlio new owners (Messrs. Richardson and Co., Ltd., of Napier) to load .her and dispatch her for Napier, via Wellington, today. - SINGAPORE DOCKS. The Mataram, which arrived at Sydney recently, brought news'of the suspension of operations on the liugo docks under construction at Singapore. Captain Williams says there were some discrepancies in the Governmcnt .borings upon which the contractors based their estimates and tenders. It was found that considerably deeper depths would have, to be readied to get solid foundations, and the extra cost was given at about a quarter of a million sterling. It was expected that this ioss would have to bo borne by the Government. Pending a settlement of this matter! the wliolo of the .works, to cost -6V 000,000, were thrown idle. THE MAORI'S OVERHAUL. Yesterday morning the Union Company's turbine steamer Maori made her reappearance at Wellington after having undergone an extensive overhaul at Port Chalmers. This consisted of fitting in a new highpressure . turbine for the centre propeller shaft, enlarged propeller blades, and new fittings and adjustments 'in' the. room.
