■ SDMMAHY AND FORECAST.; Heavy rain fell in many- parts of the North Island on Thursday night, and the weather has been squally and showery in Foxeaux Strait, : and on tlio west coast of the South Island to-day, but clecwhoro tlio weather has improved. , Strong, westerly winds have prevailed. Present indications are for a slowly rising barometer everywhere. South-westerly, winds will probably prevail, moderate to strong generally,, and squally in the south.
