■ SDMMAHY AND FORECAST.; Heavy rain fell in many- parts of the North Island on Thursday night, and the weather has been squally and showery in Foxeaux Strait, : and on tlio west coast of the South Island to-day, but clecwhoro tlio weather has improved. , Strong, westerly winds have prevailed. Present indications are for a slowly rising barometer everywhere. South-westerly, winds will probably prevail, moderate to strong generally,, and squally in the south. Fair weather is probable northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and changeable weather elsewhere, showery in many. parts of the South Island. ■ ~ ■
