An adequate water service for fire-suppression services has also been installed.- In this connection there aro eight fini-standards with shields containing hoses already coupled up which aro to bo run out and examined periodically. _ •' • The advancing spring has worked wonders with the lawns, which' in every, direction are looking very well, and already the lawn-mowers_ are in. action shaving down what is quite a luxuriant growth. ' A statement, in regard to'.the faulty drainage -at Government House ' was elicited from the Prime Minister in tho House of Representatives, last by Mr. A. L. Herdman, M.P. Mr. Herdman asked the Prime Minister, if he-could make a statement to the. Houso regarding the position of the drainage , at-Government House and' officers of tho City Council and Government had, . lie understood, been making investigations' at tho Governor's residence in regard to faulty drains, and if tho Prime Minister could give any information it.would be of value :

Tho Prime Minister said tho position was that instructions had been given to have the drainage at Government House examined right. through, . and the work was now being carried out. Whilst it was in progress, it \ was thought inadvisable that tho Governor or his family should reside there. _ A report would probably bo; in readiness in about ten days or a fortnight.
