The original beacon on To Motu has been shifted back, and the height increased, a-ud n new beacon has been erected to seaward on the sandbank, four cables to the north-westward of the' back beacon. The beacons are painted white, and lead in over the bar in 12ft. LW..0.5., bearing with ono another when In-line S. 551dcg. E. (true) or S. 71deg. E, (magnetic). The beacon on the South Head formerly in lisa has been painted brown.
Masters : of vessels are . warned, not to attempt to cross the Kaipara Bar south of lino of bracons on the North Head, so as to avoid heavy seas breaking on north-west, end of South Shonl immediately southward of line of beacons.. At present the best mark for keening in the channel is to keep the lower beacon in lino with the flagstnir when on the bar, gradually bringing the hoiwioM-s in line as the North Spit is nenrcd, and when abreast of this spit they Fhould bo in one.

As soon as she oleared Sydney Heads the ship encountered heavy weather from tho southward and head seas for two days, thence modei-iilc, variable winds, with moderate sea. and overpast sky until arrival hi nort. No land was sighted from the time of leaving Port Jackson Heads until Stephens Island was picked up on the evening of October 2G, tho weather being very thick all the way across.
