Haldane, Secretary of Stato for War, has arranged to purchase the military airship Clement Bayard 111, which recently crossed tho Channel from ■ France, subject to final tests. THE ST; LOUIS RACE. MISSING BALLOONS. (Rec. October 22, 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, October 22. Tho Balloon Germania, which landed in Quebec Province, after the race from St. Louis, has probably established a record by covering a distance of 1195 miles. ..-■'■ Alarm has been .caused because three of the balloons. in the race have not been heard from. An international aviation meet opens at New York on Saturday.-/ Messrs. Grahame-White and James Hadley, of Great Britain, are compeir ing. :■' The chief prize is. an international cup. presented by Mr. Gordon Bennett, of the "Now York. Herald." for a race or'; 400 kilometres. ; A sum of £20,000 has been "offered for.a flight, from the aviation field round the: Statue of Liberty, in. the harbour, and back to the ground.
