BAPTIST MISSIONARY SOCIETY.

; / AN ANONYMOUS' DONATION./; !' An-anonymous donationof £3377-has been received by the Baptist Missionary Society in Loudon. Accompanying the gift was a memorandum as follows: —"It is desired that this contribution shall be regarded ; as strictly . anonymous, ,and tha'. ,nc .attempt,' shall'.be made to discover, the donor. It is to be applied to the extinction of the;balanco of the debt on last year's working, the -amount of which L-it is'understood to equal. It is in the first place an acknowledgment of the blessing which God has vouchsafed in ,so peculiar, a degree to the work of the society, and a, recognition of/the ability- and devo-tion-/of its officers; ..-arid/of the high consecration of its agents on the field. It is also, in soma sense,-an expression of thanksgiving for the great success of the Edinburgh Conference, and for the demonstration of the essential unity of the' Christian Church there, manifested. But it is. further tobb regarded as a challenge to-the Baptist denomination to securo .tho success of the present , campaign among - the, churches, which was;initiated with a view to the raising of- the income of the" society to £100,000 per annum at once, and ,tlie donor desires .--to/express, his strong conviction that the prosperity of the Church at librae—perhaps' her very existence—depends upon her' obedience to the demand of her Lord, which- has recently come to her with a new emphasis, to give herself'to her great task of the evangelisation of the world."

Tho Rov. F. G. Barton-Parkes, late canon of St. George's Cathedral and rector of St. John's, Fremantle, W.A., lias gone to Taiping, in Malay Peninsula, to take up. work under tho S.P.G.
