RYAN. - The boys' department of tfca i Y.M.CA. was crowded on Thureday night, when a welcome was extended to, Mr. Ei ML Ryan,, who has, just arrived"'td- enter "-upon"'his duties ""aa boys' work director of tho Wellington Association. Mr. Ryan was previously in Wellington, but, for the last three years, has been m training to take up boys' work at the Y.M.CA. Training College, Springfield, Massachusetts. Besides studying, he has visited nearly all the important work being carried on in the .Eastern States of America, and most of the great Y.M.C.A.'s in England. He also visited the World's Y.M.CA. Convention in Germany last year. Prior to the meeting,. Mr. Eglin, chairman of the boys' department,, presided at a welcome dinner; 'and words of welcome were extended Mr Ryan by Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, H. W. Korsloy, B. K. Hills, A. W. Parton, and H. N. Holmes. Mr. Ryin responded, expressing pleasure at being baok in Wellington, and said that great things were in store , for the- boys' department. At a meeting at 8 o'clock another welcome was extended by the boy 6, and this did not finish the receptions, as at 9.30 p.m. Mr. Ryan was entertained by about forty elder lads at supper in the Old Boys' Club-room. Mr. Ryan will enter upon his duties immediately as boys' work director, and will certainly be an acquisition to'the forces working for the uplift and help of tho boys of the city and Dominioa.
