MUNICIPAL ABATTOIR.
A MONTH'S WORKING. During the month of September fl» following number of stock were slaughtered at the Municipal abattoir' to butchers in the city:—lßß bullocks and heifers, 1765 sheep, 129 lambs, IS calves. Out of this number 18 sheep, 1 lamb, and 1 calf were .condemned as, " unfit for human consumption/ The fees duo on stock slaughtered amount to .£sl Os. 4d., being a decrease of £i 19s. on last month. The fees received, from meat export slaughterhouses on meat sold within the city amount to ,£2ll 15s. Id., being a decrease of £a lis. on tho previous month. The amount due on the sale of offal and runners amount to .£45 13s. 3d., showing a decrease of £& is. 7d. on last month. The total amount for the month was .£309 Bs. Bd., being a decrease of ,£23 17s. 7d.
The decrease in the number of stock slaughtered at the abattoir was 61 cattle, 341 sheep, while there was an increase of 86 lambs, 8 calves. The manager states that owing Ihigh price still prevailing for live 6took a few. of the butchers- have been buying their beef dead from the export company. Tho quality joi stock slaughtered at the abattoir has been excellent, in fact the best that money could buy, tho butchers paying 20s. to 275. 6d. per head for sheep, and up to .£lO llos. per head for cattle—no cows were slaughtered during the month.
