The lower-. Hutt High School Bazaar was opened yesterday afternoon by Mr. T. if. Wilford, MJ"., who commended the headmaster (Mr. Ycates), the staff, and bchool Committee for the success that had apparently attended their efforts. Crowds of people were present at the opening, and very good business was done. In the evening another largo orowd assembled "and the moment one entered the school he or she was ■ immediately surrounded by an army of insistent vendors of wares. The gross proceeds yesterday were estimated at £35. The following is the list of 6tall-holders: Plain 6tall, Mesdames Exton, Carr, W. Judd, and Hendry. Old Girls', stall: Misses Stevens, Burt, Barlow, Dndding, Box, Macaskill, ulenn'ie, Bowers, Trevethiok, and York. Present Girls' .stall: . Misses. Stuart, Forbes, Macey, and Speedy. Produce stall: Miss Myers and ten assistants. Christmas tree: Mrs. Walton. Bran tub, Miss Meager. . Refreshments, Mesdames Yeats, . Baumber, and Barlow, Misses Yeats, Caverhill, and Barlow. Shooting gallery: Mr. Ballachy and Master Muirson. A magib' lantern entertainment was one of many additional attractions last night. The bazaar, will be continued this afternoon '■ and to-night.. ••' A sitting, of the Petone Police -Court was : held yesterday morning, the presiding Justices being 14 '.Mothes, G. London, and -H. Caverhill; For allowing his chimney to' catch fire, J. AVilson was fined ss. R. G. House and' A. 1 - Dolling were each fined ss. for'leaving 1 their: vehicles unattended. For loitering: on the footpath James Gibbons and Edward Ash-by-were each'fined ss. James Watt was proceeded against' by the borough inspector for allowing .his horse to wander. A fine of 55., with : 7s'. 'costs,' was imposed. John Joseph Levey, ; for whom Mr. . Wilford appeared, brought an action for.assault against' Andrew Guthrie, the alleged offence having been committed'on September' 19. ' After hearing evidence the bench fined "defendant 205.; half of .which was ordered to be handed'over to the informant, in' default four -days' imprisonment. Mr. Wilson appeared for ac. cused. '•'.'
