LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN.

'The first .-annual-, meeting of the Wei-; lington Centre of the.League of New.Zealand Wheelmen was, held on Wednesday evening','.Mr. W.H. Edwards presiding. The-balance-sheet showed a fair credit,being' lis. lOd. for the short period the centre has been formed,-.since last May; There are now six ■ delegates representing various clubs affiliated, :viz.,..New Zealand Ayemen's Association of Eltham> the Britannia Cycle Club (Gisborne), and the Port Nicholson Cycle-Glub of Wellington. The following officers were re-elected for the ensuing, term:—Chairman, Mr. W. H. Edwards; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr.'M. Ford; hon. auditor, Mr. J. E. Fitzgerald; consuls, Messrs. Ford, Edwards, Kennedy, and Mawhinney; permits committee, Messrs.-Edwards, Kennedy, Eoscee, and the secretary.;.-.. A letter was read from W. A. O'Donnell,- of: Levin, .stating that he, should like to have a chance of lowering the 100mile world's (road)-record... The present champion is Leon Meredith, of England, whose time was 4hrs. 51min. 52 4-ssec. It was stated that if O'Donnell can do the distance in five hours the Dunlop Rubber Company, of Christchurch,: will present him with, a gold medal valued .£5, ss. Should ho cover the distance under the time put up by Meredith ho will receive .the sum of ,£2O and gold medal. The proposed race will take place on November 9, the course being from Masterton to Featherston and back again, the distance to bo covered twice to make a total of 100 miles. The chairman and the secretary of the centre were appointed to make all necessary arrangements for the evonts. ~.,. The New Zealand Axemen's Association, Eltham, applied for affiliation to the Wellington Centre, which was accepted. The same association also forwarded circulars of their cycle ovents for their sports meeting which is to be held on December 20 and 27. ' ' ~', The • Permits Committee reported that a permit had been granted to the Labour Day sports body, which is holding two cycle ovents on October 12.
