The Leader of the Opposition (Mr.W. P. The.Court of Appeal will not sit either to-day or to-morrow. Tho first cases to bo taken after the Court resumes on Monday, and has finished hearing the. case now in hand, will be those of the Christchurcli City Council v. Margaret Boland and another, and John- Mullan (of Geraldine) v. Victor. Grace Day and others. The former relates to local rates on property held in trust for the Sisters of Mercy. The other is a licensing case, the defendants being the. Askburton Licensing Committee. Both cases have been removed by consent of tho parties into tho Court of Appeal. It is left to counsel to settle among themselves wifck of the two shall be taken first.

"There can be no question as to -which is the more- valuable of the two individuals as far as this country is concerned," remarked the Hon. J. T. Paul in tho Legislative Council, when commenting on the faot that a domestic servant could get an assisted passage to New Zealand for £2 165., whilst a man who wished to bring his wife out, after having made a home, for her in New Zealand, had to pay .£lO.
