"CASUALS/' 10; "PERMANENTS," 0. Tho above match was played 011 No. 1 Ground, Athletic Park on Saturday noon, and, although it was outside the •Rugby Union's programme of fixtures, attracted a good number of spectators. From the outset "Casuals" had "Permanents" in difficulties. ( Before tho game had been in progress for any length of time Ludwig potted a beautiful goal. "Permanents" lost a good chance to score by Ellis (centre three-quarter) hanging on to tho ball, instead of passing out-to his right wing. .Not to bo denied, "Casuals" camo at the attack in great style, their persistency being rewarded by O'Sullivau crossing the line for his side, thus making tho score 7 to nil, tho lack at goal failing. An amusing incident during the progress of' tho match was wheil Cartwright (for "Permanents"), receiving tho ball from ' the line-out, started to run towards his own goal, with the members of both teams chasing him and calling on him to stop. Onco again the "Casuals", put the Permanent staff on their mettle, but the defence was weak, and "J. Barber, from a scramble, got over. The attempt at goal again failed, leaving "Casuals" winners of -a well-contested game for the tenth year in succiession, "by 10 points to nil. Mr. Summerhaycs was referee. During tho half-time spell a collection was taken up on behalf of Mr, Bennett, an, old representative player.. It was liberally , responded to. . • MATCH AT PETONE. An inter-club match between teams from the, Petone. Working Men's. Club and the, Petone Junior Club was played on the Petone Recreation Ground on Satur-, day afternoon, and resulted: in a win'for' the junior club by 19 points to 8. Prior to tho match, by. way of a cur-tain-raiser, a hockey .team from the. Junior Club played a drawn game 'with a team of lady'players. The proceeds of these matches will go towards tie "Ambulance Wagon. Fund." NORTHERN UNION GAME. ' ' AUCKLAND DEFEATS : OTAGO AND . SOUTHLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association,) Dunedin, October 1. Tho Auckland Northern Union, team played a match -against a team representing Otago and Southland to-day. There were close on 2000 spectators present. Soph, after tho start Walker (Otago) got ,-over* from a loose dribbling rush', M'Dermott failing with the kick 1 at goal. No r thing of note, occurred till liean, the Auckland scrum half, got across, and Dunning converted. ' Xl'Dermott next scored for Otago, and Hughes added the major points. Even play, went on until Asher broke away, from half-way, ; outpaced his opponents, and . scored under' the posts. Dunning failed with the, kick; Before the close of the ; spell Coulter scored for Otago, Johnston converting, 1 and Nolan scored ah unconverted try for .Auckland, leaving the scoreis.at half-time: .Otago; 13 Auckland, 11.
