MILITARY APPEALS.
CAPTAIN: KNYVETT'S CASE; The provisions in tljo .Defence Aot Amendment, as it has emerged from Committee, relating to discipline, courts-martial,. and appeals, are generally considered satisfactory by those Auckland members who are . particularly interested': in them in view of the proposed retrial of ex-Captain Knyvett. Replying to a question put by a Dominion .reporter, Mr. Massey said he supposed '.Mr. Knyvett's case would come before' the court-martial by way of appeal against , his dismissal. The court would consist: of two superior officers (propably colonels),' and the judge-advocate-general would be. present in an impartial position to give advice to both sides on law points, and his presence would effectually prevent such a burlesque as took place on the last occasion Mr. Knyvett was before a military court. There would be no appeal from the decision of this court, although, of course, Mr. Knyvett'would retain his rights in common law. Asked whether the charge's • that had been made by Mr. Knyvett could be investigated by the court, Mr.. Massey 1 expressed doubt, but he thought they could.
