THE ULIMAROA'S PLIGHT.
—-♦- —'—..1.. "NO ONE TO STEAK TO.", (By Tolegraph.-Special Correspondent.) Chrlstchuroh, September' 23. 1 Mr. G. Von Duhl, . the' expert in charge of the wireless telegraphy installation on board the Huddart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa, informed a "Press" reporter to-day that the apparatus. was in thorough working', order, but the vessel had practically no ono to speak to on this side of the Tasman Sea at least. On .Thursday, l ;when the Ulimaroa was nearing liobart on her way from Melbonrrie, she was in wiroless communication with the: P. and 0. mail steamor Mooltan,; which had left Melbourne on Tuesday for Adelaide, and messages were received and sent with tho greatest facility. On Sunday night, whon nearing the New Zealand coaßt on her way to thfe Bluff, Mr. Von Duhl stated that ho distinctly hoard messages passing from H.M.S. Powerful, at Sydney, to H.M.S. Pioneer, at Auckland. He was, of courso, unable to make out the messages, which wero in cypher, but a good many figures wero being sent: He sent messages to H.M.S. Powerful, but got no responso at all. On. Wednesday night, when tho Ulimaroa was on her way frorr. Dunedin to Lyttelton, Mr., Von Duhl distinctly heard messages being, sent by H.M.S. Pioneer, at Auckland, to H.M.S. Powerful, which was at sea off the Australian coast. He attempted to get into communication with tho Pioneer, which was about 600 miles away, but could get no response ivhatlisr,
