■ Children's Fancy Dress Ball. Last evening, a fancy-dress ball, given by the juvenile pupils of Aliss Violet Warburton, took place in hor private dancing hall, a very large number of 'pupils being present. It was an exceedingly pretty and animated scene that one looked upon, and some of the fancy dresses 'weie exceedingly well carried out.' Several of the pageant children were to be seen in their pretty dresses, fusohias, briar roses, and ripo corn, while all kinds of nationalties and callings were represented—Japan.ese ladies, "the four winds" autumn (an exceedingly,, pretty costume), ''folly," nurses, iforget-me-nots, an early Victorian lady, • powder and patches, Spanish lady, peasants, cricketers, yachtsmen,, soldiers, winter, and many other characters. Miss .Warburton wore a very pretty kimono of grey crepe de chine, the dress of, 'a i lady of high rank, beautifully embroidered with wisteria, and lined with ieliotrope silk.' In her, hair wore all the emblems of rank 'as well. The ; supper table was very artistically arranged with white and yellow flowers in silver vases, w.hile streamers of lemon-coloured silk were carried from corner to corner.' The very dainty supper was' greatly appreciated ' by the children. Mrs. W. Warburton wore a dress of sequined net ■ over black silk, relieved with cream lace. Mrs. Arthur Warburton wore a dress of, pink taffetas silk, with' an over-dress of silk net. > Master Hollo 1 Warburton represented a butterfly. " Mrs. Field, Mrs. Hammerton, Mrs. Lamour, and Mrs, Easterfield were present. An "At Home." .A very .delightful "at home" was given by Mrs. Grace at hor residence in Hawkestone Street yesterday afternoon. 4 Very lovely spring flowers ,wero arranged in.the drawmg-room and in the diuing-room, where tea was served, the table was decorated with red rhododendrons. * During the afternoon Miss Phoebe Parsons gave great pleasure* by singing some very charming songs. Among those-who were present wero: Lady Ward,"" Mrs. Charles Johnson,' , Mrs. Rhodes, Captain and Mrs. Erl Johnson, Mrs. Heries, Mrs. Newman, Miss Coates, Mr.f A. Myers, Mrs. -Arthur Duncan, Mrs. Lan Duncan, Miss,Johnson, : Mrs. Shand, Mrs. Easterfield; Mr. and Mrs.' Douglas M'Lean. Mrs. Fitchett, Mrs. Ohatfield, and Mrs. Tuckoy. ' •
'A great many people, were on the wharf to see the departure of the Sydney boat yesterday afternoon, bearing away such interesting people as Madame •Calve, Signor Gasparn, M. Mr. Hugh Ward and his company, to whom Wellington is indebted for v so much. i ■ ' '
Captain and Mrs. Bryce Wilson were v among those who left for Sydney yesterday en route for England, as was Miss E. M.', Richardson, who has obtained a year's leave of absence.
