BANKS HEAT COMPANY.
CITY ABATTOIRS LOSING GEOUND. The opinion, of the Crown Law Department as to' the right of. the Banks Meat. Company to hold a -slaughterhouse license has not yet been made public. Somo time ago the Makaro County Council decided to grant a renewal of '. the. company's license.. This action was taken in direct opposition to the opinion supplied to the City Council .by Mr. C. P.Skerrett, K.C. The Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. T. Mackenzie), some weeks ago promised to obtain an opinion from the Crown Law officers,, but has not yet made any . announcements the-matter.; Heantime;it is stated that the municipal abattoirs are suffering under stress of competition.' The number of butchers "killing" there has fallen from eleven to five,' and the contractors' are placed in a difficult position. The- butchers; who patronise, the abattoir have ;made every possible effort to lave the position.; determined. They have deputatiohised all thefparties concerned in granting the license,' but in view of the attitude" of .the 'Makara. County' Council; it.seemsj.impossible that the position of the abattoir can be secured unless, action is taken by. the Minister.'
