GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL . BODIES. Among a number of matters brought under;the notice of the Hon. 11. Mj-Kenzie yesterday by a Wairoa deputation'was the question of a proposed .electrio lighting scheme for the borough. It was: proposed that the. borough; be allowed ,_to harness a portion of': tho Waikare'moana Falls. . Mr. M'Kenzio said that a; big deputation .would wait, upon him s on Monday in ' regards to the harnessing ; of/ Lake Waikaremoana. .He: wished to point out that if ; Napier, Hastings, Wairoa, and other places went in for elect-no power schemes of their own, it would knock the, bottom out of the Government's scheme, by cutting ay'ny the ' market for their power from- Lake inoana. He could - not: say . whether the Government would, be able to',. pro- : ceed 'with -their.' scheme:for a year.or so.
