A STRANGE DELAY.
WHERE IS THE GAMING BILL? '
Although the Gaming Bill was formally introduced on Tuesday, there is no, sign of the measure itself yet. This delay 'is occasioning a good •_ deal of comment. It - should be explained that it does not always follow, that , a Bill is circulated immediately after it is formally introduced —Jho introduction sometimes consists of' nierely handing in the title. In this instance, how'ever, members find a difficulty; in understanding why its publication should'be deferred. Not only has. gaming legislation been promised since last session, but some five or six weeks ago the voice of the Houso was taken on • various resolutions relating to -the, subject. In the House last night, Mr. Herdman, M.P. for Wellington North, asked the Prime Minister if he would tell, members when the Bill would be printed. "I am not entitled to answer that question," was ,Sir- -Joseph Ward's reply. It' is understood/in the lobbies that ,the delay is taking place owing to-a- difr' ference ,of opinion among certain members of the Ministry, in rfegard to the drafting of the proposals.
