' Not' a 'single first. favourite ' prevailed during the day.. There wore' uo, scratch-: :ings for the Hack Hurdles,.in whicn ,the betting market. '! .. underwent:;., several changes. Te Eu was a'. veTy-'.wann favourite;' .but- there was money for: Captain . Jingle';. 'Mahuta,' and :'Ha\yick. ' : The field was bunched'; for , the' first furlong,, with ; Te Eu :and. Captain' Jingle acting as leader. .Passing the; stand,'. Hawick .was, in.; third position,' and the others were bemg ■ ridden.' : Down the back both leaders were , in,' difficulty. : : Waterworks put a break, oh the field at the half-iriile. ■ Ha.wick tried, to catch him, , but was unsuc- . cessful, and ,stopped badly . after, jumping; the; last fence. . Eqsegrove - and Mahuta' ran on, and,, finishing, well, gained the places.: The form''.of 1 the', two, favourites was disappointing in. the extreme : ■ . '

~ The first: day's'; winner, Dearest, • waß strongly .in' demand: in, the ' Telegraph Handicap, but she got anything' but ; a good run;; and was bumped all; over the course. . Lord. Kelvin• was always in.a good, position, - and won ..very easily, but ■ Dervish .'had to-be hard'ridden' l to' stall, olf a late run by Voetgang. . Overtime, ran well to the' turn, /but could not see out tho distance., /;:■ 1 . ;. ■'

. Nbgi) won so .decisively on the first day that backers. would not , hear of,his . defeat' > to-day,- oven though. he met Lovell 'on ,'lßlb, worse terms,"and' tlur distance, being half a mile less, would be all in favour ,of the last-named.' .As usual, the, half-brother'to Pilot sot off at a breaokneck pace, and: jumped much better , than: yesterday.. . Whatashot and: Sir , Lethe were nearest to him, ■ but Nogi was tailed off, and jumping• very badly.. The.raco was never' in doubt, as,, the winner. outjumped everything,: and won'comfortably fjy' ; 'a couple of lengths;•'■'•Lingerer-.beat AVhatashot. in the run home, and Kauroa fell -..at' .'the , brush at:, the-top ;'of v. (he cojirse. ■."'.',;'■■: ...i'..'-

: There -were ho withdrawals from,. the' Killeymoon .Hack field, and .Seaweed, with W. Toum in the saddle, '.was'made' a good'favourite. '-.Ho did not : begin very well, but' was quickly in iiont,, and led to. the turn,-.where .Kill had-bird in difficulties, • and,- going. on, Won •; comfortably by a couple of. lengths. Portcullis finished :very fast, and just;.missed, second money by a head: Eastwirid and More* both got very bad passages. , .Otherwise they. might have been more troublesome.

Whatashot was saddled .up again l in, tho Hack Steeples, for which. Maku was made a strong favourite. Maku' went down very. 1 scratchily in his preliminary, and was plainly 1 feeling,.'the 1 effects of: his. fall of yesterday. Golden' l Glow and Castout made the running; for:a mile, at the end of' which Maku was upsides with them. He jumped very badly, however, and lost ground at each fence. ■ Mahara toot charge three furlongs ' from homo, o,nd won easily from Biro Atu, who name fast at tho, finish.

Thero was ft strong consensus of . opinion that Electrakoff would run better in the Open Handicap. to-day. He was out (irstj and was always in a handy position, being only beaten in the last few strides by St. .Mix, who finished gamely under the whip. Electrakoff led off, but at three furlongs St. Felis took charge, and led into the straight , from Electrakoff, Iranui, and Merrie Zealand. When in a line for homo St. Felix ran wide, and Master Laddo showed in front.. The firstnamed was straightened up, and in a very fine finish - beat Electrakoff by: a head, with Master Laddo close up. A protest was entered' against the. winner for. alleged boring of Electrakoff, but it wai; dismissed. ■ . \

M aster Ladder was the only withdrawal from the Welter Handicap.' Tho Native, with Jenkins in tho saddle, got off first, and was not headed. Valentino had to bo hard ridden to beat Strathmoira.
