September. 15. The Young Egyptian Co,ngrcss, which is sitting lure, demanded the immediate evacuation of Egypt by the Britisi and urged the' Khedive to re-establish the Constitution. Mahomed 'Fahmy, who, presided, appealed to Eu:opo for support. Mr. ICeir Ha-die sympathised with the speech and urg<d the Egyptians to unite to educate their.own people in order to" win independence.He went on to say that they must* discountenance all tendency to crime av.d outrage, and' follow Constitutional / lines. ' He advocated autonomy for Egypt. It was outrageous, he said,, to assert that the Egyptians were .unable ;to perform voters' ' duties •like the Turks. The British . occupation' was maintained. only in the interests of. 'land-owners and. capitalists. : Sh" .E. Grey's statement that the occupation was permanent sullied Britain's , honour " in the "eyes ,of the world. ;'/.
