A QUESTION OF CHARACTER. A certain amount of criticism was directed by members of the House yesterday against Section G of the Education Act Amendment Bill, which proposed to remove tho disqualification placed on candidates for school committees convicted of certain offences if the candidate had ; received a free pardon , or had undergone tho punishment to which they had been adjudged. llr. Representatives, and to he called to the Legislative Council, were not eligible' for election to school committees. Ht> knew nt two cases in which exceedingly able men had been disqualified under the present Act - on account oi their previous life.
