MASTERTON LADY'S SUICIDE. . iProm Our Special Correspondent.) '••.-■■ ; Masterton, September 10. A painful - sensation was.caused ' in Masterton this morning when it became known that the body of Miss Bessie Maude Bunny, daughter of the late Mr. Henry Bunny, of Featherstou, had been found in the Lansdowne dam. Miss Bunny had ; been despondent of late. On Friday afternoon sne left a note and a parcel with a neighbour, for delivery to a friend, and left hurriedly, stating that she had friends athorhome. As she did not return home her mother and brother became alarmed, and reported the matter, to tho police. A search of the Lansdowne dam was made, but no trace of the body could be found. Early this morning Mr. Oliver Bunny and Mr. Smith discovered the body floating in the dam, in about twelve feet of water. The body was fully dressed, even to a hat and veil. An inquest was held this morning beforefMr. E. G. Eton, J.P., actingcoroner, and a jury. After hearing the evidence the' jury returned a - verdict of suicide whilst temporarily insane. The parcel left for a friend contained jewellery, and the letter indicated that deceased was in a. troubled state of mind. A note left with the neighbour wished her good-bye. A sad feature of the tragic affair is that Mrs. Bunny, sen., is in ; a very low condition. The deceased lady was forty years of ago. FATALLY INJURED. Gisborno, Septembor 9. John Drummond, foreman of Smith's mill at Rakauroa, who was injured by a faling tree on August 31, died to-day, aged 52. He was resident for twelve years in tho Wairarapa (a member of tho firm of Drummond Bros.), leaving thero six yoars ago. Ho leaves a widow and five sons. DROWNED IN THE HEATHCOTE. Christohuroh, September 10. A married woman named Elizabeth Lillian Beaumont, aged 41, was found dead in the Heathcote River yesterday. At the inquest her husband said tli.it deceased had been worried over small matters, and had pined away. A verdict of suicide whilst of unsound mind was returned.
