PLUNKET MEDAL COMPETITION.

On' Saturday evening,- September 10, the annual competition - for the modal prej sented bv Lord Plunket "for oratory will- take place at tho Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, under tho auspices of the Victoria College Debating Society. His Excellency'the Governor inll.be. present, and the meeting will be open ,to the public. There will be > eight speakers, each of whom, in accordance with the rules governing the competition,' Will give a discourse on "Some Man or "Woman of Note in History," and the virtues of each hero must be extolled, and, his failings reproved, in the space of eight minutes. The names of the competitors are'as iollow (their subjects being iu parentheses): -Mr. H. E. Evans, 8.A., LL.B. (William the Silent); Mr. E. Hall-Jones (Cecil Rhodes ; Mr. L. P. Leary (Cardinal Richelieu); Mr, \W. M'Eldowney (Johnßright); Mr.'H. Vi. Jlonaghan, B.A. (Alfred, King of England);. Mr. M. -H. Oram, M.A. (President Garfield); Mr. ,E. S, Itutherfurd (John Nicholson); Mr. E. S. Watson (Abraham Lincoln).'' The winner is the orator who-receives the greatestf number of votes from that portion of the audience which forms members of the .Victoria College Debating Society. Tho medal is of gold, is struck annually, and bears i n inscription, 'iestina Eente." ■ .
