HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(Prom Oar Special Correspondent.) A gymnasium is to be erected in connection with the Hutt Recreation Club on the roof of the Hutt Town Hall Buildings, over the Hiver Board's offices and the billiard-room. The new structure will bo 48ft. long, 35ft. wide, and 18i't. high, and will be fitted with modern conveniences, including three shower baths and dressing rooms. ' DRAUGHTS CHAMPION'S VISIT. Mr. Alfred Jordan, the English champion draughts player, will givo an exhibition game of. draughts at the Petoue Working Men's Club ou Wednesday evening. SKATING CARNIVAL* The grand skating carnival which is being held in the Petone Palaco Rink tomorrow night, promises to be a success. The numerous trophies offered for the fancy and poster costumes, and also the sporting events, should attraot crowds of skaters, as well as snectators. As this is an effort to increase "the ambulance wagon fund, it is hoped that it will meet with the support which it deserves. Amongst the attractions will be the first appearance of the newly-formed Petono Municipal Band, forty "strong, who will, prior to the carnival, head a procession from the railway station to the rink. Wellington patrons are reminded that the train leaves Potone Station at 10.31 p.m., thus allowing .them ample time, to participate in the carnival. HENRY-POTTS MISSION. ' A' meeting of the executive of the Henry-Potts Petone mission was held in the AVosley Schoolroom last evening. The balance-sheet showed that expenses had been well covered, and that generally the mission.had been successful. . ■ NO-LICENSE LEAGUE. Tho montnly concert, under the direction of the Hutt . Valley No-License League, was held in the victoria Street Hall, Petone, last nwjlit. Tho attendanco was good, Mr. T. Yownscnd occupying the chair. The speaker for the evening, was the Rev. B. P. Rothwell. Tho' following ladies and gentlemen contributed to an excellent programme:—Pianoforto solo, Miss E. M;inness; recitation, Miss Adcoek; 6ong, Mr. Carson; dnnt, Miss Daisy Kibblewhito and Master Udy; humorous sketch, Messrs. Martin and Sims; song, Miss Irene Blakeley;. glee, Messrs. Kyle, Carson, Ackroyd, Blakeley, and Simpson;- recitation, Mr. Martin; song, Miss Watkins; recitation, Mr. Sims. Tho last item on the programme was a very humorous dialogue, enacted by members of- tho W.Y.M.1., the characters being interpreted by Messrs. R. Kibblowhitc, J. Mills, D. Simpson, G. Blakeley, H. Lusty, and P. Blakeley.
