LAYMEN'S MISSIONARY MOVEMENT.

Last evening two important meetings were held in connection with tho laymen's missionary movement which Dr. M'Laren and Dr. Pettit have lately been promulgating in Wellington. The first was a meeting of Methodist laymen held iu Wesley Church Hall. Mr. W. B. Redstone presided, and amongst thoso nresent were the Eevs. J.- Serpell, .T. "Ward, J. E. Clarice, Chappel, and 13. 0. Blamires, and Mr. H. N. Holmes, secretary of tho Y.St.CA. Addresses were delivered by Drs. M'Laren and Pettit, defining the scope and purpose of J;he movement in which they aro engaged, and inviting the cooperation of tho laymen present. A number of the latter spoko appreciatively in reply. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the missioned, and a strong committee was set up to further tlie> movement. . Later, a well-attended meeting of Presbyterian laymen was held in St: John's Church Hall, Dr. Gibb presiding. The same procedure was followed as at tho previous meeting, and here also a representative committee was formed. To-morrow evening a united men's meeting is to be held in St. John's Church, at which. Drs. M'Laren and Pettit are to conclude their work in Wellington.
