Marriner, ' acting-president, said" the trade' outlook was promising. The demand for wool.was increasing,. and trade with Europe and America was'expanding in all. branches. Unless European complications intervened, the . Dominion should havo another period of prosperity. The only disturbing factor was Labour. For the first time for-fifteen years the returns last' year showed a decrease' of 1042 adult workers and 1258 juniors. Christchurch -had paid .£29,312 less in wages'thaii in the previous year, indicating, that investors were tired of the continual worry and anxiety, as to the futurej anil were withdrawing their capital. The jury return- .- ed a verdict of .guilty, and prisoner was' remanded for sentence. "Can I appeal, your Honour?" asked prisoner. "Yes, replied his Honour, "I suppose .you feel sore'because the other jury acquitted your companion, and you bave been found guilty. The fact is," concluded his Honour, "the other jury was gulled, but', this jury bas ' not been gulled." David Todd was charged with breaking and entering, and 'stealing, from, the dwellinghouse of Gustav Kronfell, and was found guilty, and remanded' for sentence. ON THE ROAD TO SETTLEMENT. .
