DAIRYING STATISTICS.
~ FACTORIES AND CREAMERIES, Tho statistics'contained in the list of registered dairy factories, etc., just published- by the 'Department of Agriculture, do not. necessarily give much indication of • the comparative productiveness of the various provincial "districts, but they are interesting, nevertheless. The list includes creameries, factories, private butter and cheese dairies,' and packinghouses. The total shows Taranaki to"contain far tho largest total. Taking, the factories and tho creameries, . apart from the private dairies and tho packing houses, Taranaki has almost one-third of the number which has been erected in the Dominion. The total in New Zealand is 380, and 120j are in Taranaki. .There aro 66 in Auckland, and 68 in Wellington. Otago and Southland run Taranaki closo in the number of factories, Taranaki with 59 being.only four ahead. . ' There are four'less creameries in tho Dominion than there were last year, but there aro 42 niore. factories. The number of : priyato butter dairies is 45 less, and'the number of; private cheese dairies 17 less. There'; are 23 less packing houses.
