; , . MONTHLY MEETING. \ The monthly, meeting of tho : above body was held last evening. Present: Messrs. .T..Ballinger (chairman),. J. P. Luke, M.P., D. Jl'Laren, M.P., W.H. Field, M.P., J:G.-W. Aitkeu, T. Carmicliael, and W.. Allan. ; The financial statement shotyed a. credit balance of £1892 10s. 7d.,.ascompared u'ith. a debit balance of £1117, 13s. 10d. for the corresponding period of last year. ,-, The chairman pointed ont that this satisfactory iiosition was duo to the receipt of a 'progress payment of £1600 from the Govornment. The statement was approved. On the. motion of Mr. Aitken, it was decided that the consideration of correspondence in connection with tho Industrial Hall, and office- bo postponed for'a month,, and that the further correspondence be. circulated amongst tho members of the board. • Tho Director reported that it had been suggested,- as tho outcome of a conversation ho had had with Mr. Keyling, of the Painters' and. Decorators' Union, that, tho management of the examinations, issue- of certificates, and framing of courses should bo under the advice of a board of control, similar to that existing; iu regard to the plumbing and electrical trades. The suggest•ed constitution-of this body was: (a) representative of the. Technical Education Board; (b) a representative of tho Master Painters; (c) a representative of the journeymen painters; (d) an architect (as : ail independent expert); and (e) the .'Director-.of tho. Technical School. The'masters had .appointed Mr. T. A. Wells, and, he understood, tho men wero appointing a representative that, night. He believed that tho constitution of tho board would bo of great value. . ;Tlio recommendation was approved. ■ The Director reported that Mr. Quinnell, M.K.C.V.S., had been in communication . with him with a view to tho organisation of a farriery class, which would also include a course of instruction -for police and others in regard to the application of first-aid treatment.to animals in cases of cruelty', accident, etc. It was suggested' that such a class should be formed, and held in a central place. , ' The .chairman ' and Director ivero authorised to make the necessary arrangements. .- It was- decided to secure rooms in Brown's bookselling establishment.
