—. 9 _ I THE FINANCIAL ASPECT. The monthly meeting the Board of Governors 4 of Wellington College and tho Girls' Higli School was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs. Robert Lee (acting-chairman), "W. F. Ward, and A. K. Warburton. According to the statement of finances tlio balance us per bank book was £633 11s. 9d. Deducting therefrom prospective payments totalling £600 14s. Bd., the net balance was £22 175.; Id. Prospective receipts with respect to outstanding rents aiid fee's brought the amount to credit up.to £2305 9s. 4d., on paper. Mr. Warburton asked whether the Government fees for free-place pupils Jioiv due would be paid at once. The secretary (Mr. C. P. Powles) said he did; not think, so. He was afraid they would have to-do as on a.previous occasion—work for an' instalment ,on account. . : . . Mr. Ward said that the balance actually on hand was very small —inadequate to meet the paymonts of salaries. ,' ■ . An analysis of the outstanding amounts showed that the fees duo from the second term at Wellington College reached a total of £1115 25., while arrears for the period previous stood at £109 6s. 2d.' At the Girls' College the second term fees due and outstanding totalled £840 17s. 7d. Outstanding rents wero set down at £217 6s. 6d. . In a letter to the - board the headmaster of Wellington Collego (Mr. J. P. Firth) asked to be relieved of tho responsibility for' the payment of the salary of the gymnastic-instructor who, stated Mr. Firth, "was without superior in Now Zealand." If was explained that tho instructor's salary was £60 per annum, of which ■ the board paid £20' and ■ Mr. Firth £40. Some surprise was expressed that this should bo so. Furthor action was deferred till next meeting.The remainder of the business, was concerned with matters of routine. ■
