SPEECH BY SIR EDWARD GREY.

Sir Edward Grey, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in a speech at Berwick, : declared > that if the "Veto ; Conference showed that there was possibility of solving the: dispute between the two Houses by agreement, tho country would he delighted, providing the > settlement was a fair.one; otherwise the Liberals, would resuino the fight in •'•he same spirit as at the last election.", . •... ■'■'. ■ ■■■ In justifying the Budget, Sir Edward Grey .contrasted, the growth of. ■trade- in .Free-trade England and the increased agitation in the ' Protectionist countries against the cost of living. He also ! emphasised the ■ simultaneous , increase of the Socialist vote,'and declared, that Protection was a short cut to Socialism.
