Tho City Council decided last evening to co-operato with tho Banks Meat Company and W. Dimock and Compony in hastening tho settlement of a drainage grant in connection with tho abattoir.. Tho Mayor explained that a sum of J351) was duo from the council to the Banks Meat Company for permitting the abattoir drains to bo connected with its service. The payment, however, had been withheld, because tho company could not ut present show a titlo to a piece of land through which the drain ran. The position in regard to. W. Dimoclc and Com: pany was similar. The council would cooperate with .these firms in seeking to obtain titles.

Animals dying at the Wellington Zoo, and not required for tho, Newtown Museum, arc to bo sent in future to Victoria College, as specimens for. dissection.

It was decided last evening by the City Council that the city reserves be closed -for winter games after Saturday, September 10, and that applications bo invited for the allotment of cricket pitches for tho coming season.

The Minister for Public Works has accepted the tender of Mr. John Colley for the erection of a police gaol at Gisborno. Tho contract prico is .£3<oo.
