Wanganui, August 15. : A .rumour has been lately going 1 th«" rounds that the Railway Department intend; shortly to shift' the railway workshons from Eastown to Marton,.and the report has apparently been strengthened by the Department's withdrawal of its recent offer of a subsidy to the Borough Council in respect of the new water main to Arainoho with a connection across the railway bridge to The local railway authorities state, however, that they know of nothing to justify the existence of the rumour, and that the supposition iu regard to the'withdrawal of. the offer to tho council is unfounded. Mr. Cowles, telegraph engineer, is at' present engaged hero installing a "phantorn circuit' on tho Wanganui-Marton telephono lino, which it is expected will greatly increase the facilities between the . two places.' ] ,\ Complaints have recently been made by travellers regarding the use of objections able language by newspaper sellers on. railway trains, and the Kailway Depart?
