A Bill to discontinue tho bookkeeping system with regard- to the payments to tho States, was introduced. Tho system costs .£30,000 annually. Tho Bill was passed through Committee.
An amendment to the Note Issue Bill to place tho control of tho issue under a commission was negatived. .
Mr. Fisher declined to accept an amendment providing for payment of gold for notes in -each capital, saying that it would be unsafe to have too many points of attack in timo of panic. Tho progress of the Bill is slow. The House is still sitting till early morning. ,
In the Senate a motion to subsidise tho cable scrvico was carried without division. Senator Pcarce (Defence Minister) said the proposal was not designed to, bolster up Labour papers.
