A DRAUGHTS CHAMPION.
VISIT OF ME. ALFRED JORDAN. Mr. Alfred Jordan, the draughts champion of England, who has been in the South Island for a few weeks, is nt present iu Wellington, and on Wednesday evening proved his remarkable skill in a series of games played at the Working Men's Club. After being welcomed by Mr. Mapplcbeck, president of the club,' the champion w-as pitted against 29 local players simultaneously. The tables were arranged in a square, and Mr. Jordan passed rapidly from table to table very rarely'hesitating in making a move: Only once during the evening did he pass a table without making a move.
