LAYMEN'S MISSIONARY MOVEMENT.
.Dr. C: J. -M'Laren, of Melbourne, and Dr. W. H. Pettit, of Nelson and Dunedin, leaders of the Laymen's Missionary Movement, who have' been conducting meetings in'the .South Island, arrived in Wellington yesterday .morning.. The object; of the World's Student Federation, .in the interest of the missionary department of which they are working, is to imbue laymen with the spirit of evangelisation, and attract students to 'missionary work in hon-Cbristiau fields. The visitors were entertained at luncheon at the Y.M.C.A. yesterday, the'. Hon. George Fowlds presiding. ■ : Dr. M'Laren explained •"; the bbjects of .the ..movement, which in/ itself was essentially a spiritual movement interdenominational and denominational —a call to prayer. Its motto was "The Evangelisation. of the World jti. this Generation." It" did not' itself undertake missions, but helped, through stimulating . the evangelising .'■•, spirit among laymen, .(the , existing mission;Dr. Pettitt referred to the work done in New Zealand since the arrival •of Dr. M'Laren some, few- weeks ago. Mr. H. N. Holmes- (Y.M.C.A.) :an-. nounccd a series of meetings at 'the various churches in furthering the movement., -;>■ ■ •■.'■■ Last evening'Drs.; M'Laren and Pettit met the men of the Congregational Church at 6 o'clock , tea, and at 8 p.m. met the men; of the Church of Christ. To-day ! they'will meet, the Church of Christ men at 6 o'clock tea, the Primitive. Mefhodis'i men at the Y.M.C.A. at 8 p.m:', .and the University studentsat 'the. Victoria v College at 8 p.m. on Friday.. On. , Sunday, at 11 a.m.,- Dr. M'Laren mil preach at St. John's, and Dr. Pettit at tlio Terrace • Congregational Church. The same Evening Dr. M'Lareh will speak at the Wesley Church, TaraJiaki' Street,, and Dr. Pettit' at ■' the- Vivian Street Baptist Church. On Sunday,. afternoon there will be meetings at the Y.M.C.A. and at the.Victoria College. : ; On Monday, the visitors will meet ■'.• the Alethodist men at 6 p.m. in the Wesley Church, and at 8 p.m. will meet the L'resbyterian men, at St. John's Church. The mission will culminate in a united men's meeting,, to be lield in St. John's Church on Tuesday evening next. ' ; , . ■'" ' :
