'Wellington yesterday, yia Sydney, by ■ -the Manuka. They are:— -. The Rev. Canon. Iveris,'. vicar of Sowcrly. Bridge, Yorks. . The Rev. H. B. !F. Farrer, rector of Bridport, Dorset.' /. . : '' , The ,Rev. Cecil 1 de'Carfceret, vicar of Christ: Church, Greenwich. , ■ i The Rev. C. Ti Horan, rector ;of Holbrooke, Derby.:, - ■ ' Canon" Ivens, and the Revs. H. R..F; Farrer and C. de .Carteret left England by the Orvieto (Orient Line) on July 8, and had an exceptionally smooth passage. out. ! 'During , the voyage services were held on Sundays, arid Bible classes for men and women' were carried ou through the week. . ..-. ■ The object of the missjon in.New Zealand (states Canon Ivens) is twofold, namely, to rouse , the lapsed and to make Christians' into.better Christiaps. The missioners belong to various schools of thought, but .their work,.will be to declare tlio■ great fundamental doctrines.held, by all schools' of thought, within the Church.' As regards, ritual, it may, be stated with .confidence (says' Canon Iyens) that all 'the, missimiers will conform; to the / ritual of. the churches'.it'o-'-which.'they aro, sent. In England thore has-been of late a marked -drawing together., of ■ the parties within the Church, and less stress' is being laid on 'party.divisions. It is hoped that this .mission, may become the means of lifting the New Zealand Church .to a higher level of spiritual life/; / ~/.. ..■■-, ■/ '.' ; ). ■ ' ..' " .',..- Canon Ivens (as, stated.by.'the Rev. H. Ausoii in an artie'e recently published iiiTffß Dominion) is -a , wellknown evangelical preacher, has a wido experience! of the hard-headed and democratic working people of tho West Ridiug of V'orksbire, who are so like New , Zealanders' in their ■' views and. ideals. He has been for/many years ,vicar of Soirerby Bridge, l near Halifax. Mr. de Cartsret is prominent among supporters of ' the ■< Church Missionary Soeietj', to which New 'Zealand owed so much in years, and still supports so seriously.. Mr. Farrer has ■ lived in New Zealand, and is familiar 'with its ways of thought.. Mr.; Horan has been a naval officer, and was in his infancy in New" Zealand, where ■ his father was fighting in the' Maori war. Mr. Ivens will conduct a mission at St. Paul's, Wellington, Mr. Fitzgerald at St. P<!ter's, Mr. do Carteret at St.. Marks, Mr. Farrer at Masterton, and Mr.'.Horan at Petono, , in each . case from October 1 to October 10i ■.■'" : . The two leaders of the mission, Canon E. A. Stuart; of Canterbury (England), and the Rev. J. C. Fitzgerald, of tho Community of tho Resurrection', Murfield (Yorkshire), and . Canon i H.. V. Stuart are expected,te arrive this morning by the 1 Turakina. The Bishop, of Wellington.
