JAPAN AND KOREA.
-9 — ■ ; ; IMPENDING 'ANNEXATION. ':. Bγ Telesrranh— Frees Association-Copyrigit. (Rcc. Aug. 24, 11.15 p.m.) London, August 24. "Tho Times" St. Petersburg correspondent reports that Japan has informed Russia of the impending annexation of Korea, and has announced tha-t tho Korean Government lias entered into a treaty providing for annexation. Onco Korea is recognised as an integral part of tho Mikado's empire the terms of new commercial treaties will be applicable to that country as well-as to Japan proper. This will be an advantage to Japanese trade, since foreign competition will be greatly lessened by the tariff on foreign goods. The trade of Mussia with Korea is insignificant,. but tho annexation will mean a substantial loss.to British and American merchants.
