CALVE.
Madame Calve, who comes to Wellington next week, occupies a 1 unique position in the concert and operatic world. Her beautiful voice, is not her only asset. All her operatic performances are imbued with a dramatic intensity not often found even amongst the-greatest singers. Madame Cnlve's performance' of "Carmen" is:regarded as ideal, and many critics ■ simply say that "Calve is Carmen!" ' She created the part of Santuzza in "Cavallerin Eusticnna" at Florence, making a great sensation, and her name is also associated with many other operas, including "Haialet,". "Sapho," "Figaro," '"Mefistofele," "II Trovatore," etc. The famous artist can appear only 'once in Wellington, namely, on 1 Saturday; September 3, at the Town. Hall. She will be supported by Siguor Gasparri, the eminent tenor; and. M. Jacques ; Pintel, tho cultured pianist. The box plan will be opened on Tuesdaynext lit the Dresden.
