A young man named Eric Smail an.' pearar beiorc the l'olice Court to-day on n charge, of having attempted to commit suicide on August 13. Accused. pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Phuit said that accused went, on night in question, to Mr. bproseij,. chemist,' and procured' a liniment known-as "A.L.C.,-" which contains aconite, belladonna, and chloric form-three. deadly - poisons. Hp then went to the Trades Hall, where ho drank about a third of the contents, falling to the floor immediately. Smail was removed to the hospital, and remained there until to-day, a constable attending him day and night. The hospital doctor said that Smail was not in a condition fit to be let go. Expenses amounting to «£l2 had been incurred, police charges being JCIQ 45., hospital £1 10s., and cab hire 6s. On the night on which he was admitted to the hospital he asked the constable fop the bottle of poison, saying: "I took it, and I'll take it again/' He was considerably under the influence of drink when .he (committed the act. His Worship said that he . would remand accused fop a week, for the purpose of obtaining the police /and probationers' reports. . t.M the outcomo of' the above, Harry Lionel Sprosen, chemist; was charged with having committed a breach of the Poisons Act by selling to Smail a liniment containing poison, and failing to make an entnr of tne same in his poisons sales book.
