The annual meeting of the Featherston Co-operative Dairy Co.,was held on Saturday afternoon, when there wava record attendance, and Mr. W.' Fuge occupied the chair. The report, and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The outgoing directors (Messrs. \V. Fuge, J. E. Huntley, and G. E. Yule) were re-elected. A resolution was' passed increasing the capital from ,£3500 to : ,£ISOO. A vote of thanks was passed to the directors, the manager, and secretary. >

A strong committee has been appointed to make 'all. arrangements for a skating carnival, to be held in the local Town Hall on September 22.

CARTERTON. , The annual meeting of the local United Friendlv Societies' Council, is to' be held on Friday evening next. The business will, include the/ election of officers. Those retiring are: Bros. J. 11. Nicholls (president), C. J. De Ilacey (treasurer), and Win. Tucker (secretary). The two latter are eligible for re-election. Mr. H. Judd, of Napier, a former resident of this town, was among the visitors to Carterton on Saturday. The Eev. 0. G. Kimberley, organising secretary of the Church of England Mission Society, was the preacher _at St. Mark's Church on Sunday morning. It is probable that Mr. J. B. Merrett, of Christchurch, will deliver a lecture in Carterton shortly on the subject of egg circles. Mr. Merrett assisted .in a large measure to launch the Wairarapa Egg Circle, now working so successfully in Mastert'ou. It is pleasing to note that .unoccupied houses in-Carterton are now not so numerous as they were a few months back. There are, however, still a few. It is whispered that rents have declined -a little. The local Gnn Club have arranged to hold a clay-bird sweepstake match oil Thursday next for a stake of XIO. Tho conditions' are fifteen birds, unknown • angles, and two nominations will be allowed. Tho handicap will' be by yards, twenty-two to 'nineteen, maiden shooters will be handicapped on eleven yards. The contest is open to. members of clubs affiliated with the New Zealand Gun Club. Association. Messrs. H. Catt and C. S. Beeolicy will bo-the handicappeio. The Taratahi and Parkvalo'Dairy Companies commenced, tho season's operations on Monday morning,' when considering the time of the year, tho supplies wero vorv satisfactory. Other local factories follow suit in tho course of a few dayts. . t
