A Japanese warship was dispatched to tho Bedford's assistance.

The Bedford is a first-class cruiser. of 9SOO tons displacement and ,22,457 i.h:p. She was built at Govan, and completed in 1903 at a total cost of .£706,020. Sho carries a complement of 537 men, and is commanded by Captain E. S. Fitzherbert.
