STUDENTS OF ASTRONOMY.
BANDING IN WELLINGTON. For a considerable time there has been a desire on. the part of members of the Wellington Philosophical Society to form an astronomical section. At a recent meeting it was resolved to form a branch with the object of establishing an observatory in Wellington and promoting the study of astronomy. It was suggested that the observatory ; should bo called the King Edward Memorial Observatory. Last night half "a score of interested persons met at the museum to further the movement. Dr. Ifector was elected to the chair, and straight-away invited nominations for the offices, which were subsequently filled as follow:—President, Mr. C. P. Powles; council, Messrs. G. Hogben, G. V. Hudson, C. E. Adams, and T. King, Drs. Hector , and .Kennedy, and Professor Ficken; secretary, Mr. A. C. Giffo'rd. A vice-president, or vicepresidents will be elected later. .The member ' has not yet been fixed.
