A runaway horse, attached to a baker's cart, created some excitement in Lambtoh Quay and adjoining streets shortly, after four o'clock on 1 Saturday afternoon. As he was driv-. ing out of Karori Crescent, his hat. blew, off, and while he was recovering it a cover was blown from the cart about . the horse's head. The animal imme- '. diately bolted, and turned down Sydney Street .at speed;' j A cab-driver named W. H. Read vainly tried to stop;, its career, and the runaway gained Lambton Quay. : Here: it had an unchecked career for a time, but was brought abruptly to .a stop W'hen the; cart in its. wake came into •violent contact with the. tramway standard pole in the,middle of the Quay, opposite the. end of Brandon Street.
