.:./':/.•;/•, /. ' TRIBUTE TO MR. GEO. N. GOLDIE. At- a committee • meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association on/ Frjdav evening it was decided to send ithe following' letters, to/Mr. ~G,/N. Goldie, who-has -resigned 'tho'pbsitiohs' of secretary and treasurer to the association after seven years' service:— /' "The committer feelx very dfeeply the • severance of the pleasant relations that 'have existed for the past.seven years, and regret that the cause should have been- traceable •to ill-health. It cannot; /but feel that to a large extent -your" illness-was caused by overwork and anxiety- with rigaid to tho business: of the-association. The committee .express its gratitude for'your iievertiring efforts on behalf of the association, and wishes now to place on roi'cord its opinion that you have, by your Consistent'efforts, been.very largely, in-, strumental in. bringing'tennis matters into the promiiieM position they occupy to-day.-; : It is mainly, through your ■ initiative that the excellent orI ganisation of associations, sub-associa-tions, and clubs is', so satisfactory, :and it is. certainly' due. to your. strenuous efforts/ever since 1904 that .interna-: tional tennis has" loomed so largely .in /the affairs of New Zealand. The committee hopes that even though you have severed your official connection, you will continue, to take; a lively . interest in the .welfare of the. sport, and that with tho rest you -will soon be restored to your usual health." ' In tho Richmond to Blackfriars swim (about 15 miles), Battersley came first in 3 hours 21 minutes. 21 sec, and Taylor second in 3 hours 24 minutes 47sec. Fourteen lady. competitors \ entered. Jai-vis did not complete the distance.

' i A. conference of athletic societies in Auckland province decided to tako no action regarding the establishment of an athletic union for the North Island, as tho provincial system was considered sufficiently satisfactory. On nccount of the prosperous condition of the association tho affiliation fee was reduced to 10s. It was agreed to reciprocate with-the League of .Wheelmen, the Axemen's Association, and the amateur body. Championships were allotted to tho Te Kuiti Society for the coming season.
