LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.

KEEN CONTESTS. (By Telegraph.—Press'Association.) Chrisichurcft, August 20. The New Zealand ladies' golf championship was continued at Shirley this morning, 'when some splendid and keen-ly-fought contests wero witnessed, play being of a high order. throughout. Tho conditions were ideal for golf, a gentle sou'-wester. /blowing and a cloudy sky with the suii only shining.out at intervals. ' The r principa! game was that between Miss Collins (the Wellington champion) and Miss Brandon (last year's runnerup for the New Zealand championship). The game was.a very even one, MIS 3 Brandon for a considerable time- being on© up. She, however, lost her advantage, and Miss Collins won—2 up. Miss Gorrie.and Miss "Wright fought an even contest, first the one- and then tho other leading. Miss'Gorrie finally secured the match at. the last : hole, winning by 1 up. Miss Campbell'and Miss Pierce also gave a good game. Misa Campbell won tho first three.' holes. _ Then Miss Pierce won four in succession, and \vnt> 1 up.'.Thenextfoiirholes were halved. Miss Campbell then won two, ' and was 1 up. The next hole was halved, and then Miss Campbell > won another hole and was dormy 3, eventually finishing the match with 3 up and 1 lo play. Miss Wilson and Miss ' Humphrey had a strenuous go, being neck and neck all the way, Miss Humphrey winning on tho last green. ' Miss- Hamlin gave Miss Wray tho closest go she has had yet, the game being all-square till eight holes had been played,' after which Miss Wray gradually forged ahead. At the twelfth hole she was 5. up, at the thirteenth she lost the ball from a very, long drive and forfeited tho hole with 1 up and 5 to go. Miss Hamlin won next, witn Miss Wray 3. up and 4 to go. The next two wero' halved, leaving Miss Wray winner with 3 up and 2 to go. Miss Ashwell and Miss Hindmarsh also had a very even go, Miss Ashwell being 3 up and 2 to go at the sixteenth hole. Mrs. Borthwiek and Miss Abrahams fought out an even game all through, Mrs. Borthwick finally winning by 2 up. Miss Bell disposed of Miss Ledger by 2 up.

The following arc the. results of tho third round of the championship: — Miss Gorrio beat Miss Wright, 1 up. Miss Ashwoll beat Miss Hindmarsh, 3 up and 2 to play. Miss Campbell beat Miss Pierce, 3 up and 1 to play. Miss'Collins beat Miss Brandon, 2 l 'P- . Miss Humphreys beat Miss Wilson, 1 up. Miss Wray boat Miss Hamlin, 3 up and 2 to play. Miss Hell beat Miss Ledger, -2 up. Mrs. Borthwick beat Miss Abrahams, 2 up.
