M'Nab takes up permanent residence -at Palmerston on Thursday next. A pleasant surprise was' sprung upon Mr. A. E. Glover, member for Auckland Central, at.the supper■ adjournment of the Houso of Representatives last night. Mr.'Glover (it will be remembered) took a leading part in organising tin; ..Parliamentary excursion to Auckland at .tho time of the Winter Show, and the members who travelled' north presented Mr. Glover with a case of pipes, suitably inscribed, as a mark of their appreciation of the manner- in which ho looked after their comfort. Mr.Massey made the presentation, and Mr. Glover " suitably responded. . » Messrs. D. M'Laren, M.P., T. Smith, P. Hare, A. L. Jones, T. King, and W. Wrixon have been appointed delegates from the Wharf Labourers' Union' to the Trades Council. The Bootmakers' Union havo appointed the following -.as delegates:—Messrs. W. Tees, J. Hutchison, J. Holland, J. Quin, W. Reynolds, and A.'B. Lucas: At the usual supper adjournment of the Housb of Representatives last night members of the House,'together, with the officers of Parliament .and members of tho press gallery, were the guests of Mr. A. M. Myers, M.P. for Auckland EisL, at mi oyster supper.The toast of Mr. Myers's health was proposed by the Prime Minister and .supported by th'c Speaker. Mr. Myers, in-the course of an appropriate reply, said a cold had prevented him from joining with his colleagues in entertaining the party which recently visited Auckland, and he had taken that opportunity of \ieiiioving that responsibility/from his conscience. A pleasant function ended in the singing of "For he's a jolly good fellow." ■Mr. J. ' V. Saunders, the Victorian and international cricketer, who has been appointed coach and groundsman to the Wellington Cricket Association, is lo leave .uel.bburne for Wellington by tho Waj-rimoo on "'August 31. Mr. Duncan,- of the Agricultural Department, who was recently transferred from Auckland to Wellington,'was presented by the Auckland officers of the Department, at Auckland on'.Wednesday, with a handsome piece of furniture. Mr.' Spicer,. district agent, made the presentation, and Messrs. Reakes and Johnston also spoke. Mr. C. M. Montcfiore, general manager in New Zealand of the Ocean Accident Insurance Corporation, arrived in Sydney, from London on Monday. He will probahly leave by the Manul;:i sailing for Wellington to-day. . Messrs.. R. Crow and 0. Witcher, ■'Californian visitors, who arrived at Auckland by the Mourn, this wee;';, left by tho express- on Wednesday iroriiinji on a brief visit to Rotorua. They will return to Auckland on Saturday, ami catch the mail train on Sunday niplit for Wellington, whence thev leave by next week's steamer for Sydney. -
