' WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. - The hockey eorapetition.'under the auspics.s of the Wednesday Association, was advanced another slage yesterday afternoon". KAIIOKI, 1; PAKEHA, NIL.' Tho v nn>tcli, Karori; v, ■ Pakeha, was played at Karori ground,' which was in fine condition, and tho resulting gamo was very fast. Prom the "b'ullyoil'" Karori carried the attack to tho Pakeha end, but a good chance to score was spoiled by obstruction, which enabled Pakeha 1 to clear and attack in turn. A scon* was saved, however, by the Karori goalkeeper conceding u pen-alty-corner. Karori, gutting the ball, carried it to half-way, (Jayford driving to Dyer, who carried it into the Pakeha circle, but for want of support lost the chance. Tho Karori forwards, playing hard'and following up fast, soon had the Pakeha backs in trouble again, and from a hard, drive Ciilo,'following up fast, was on •' the goalkeeper before he could clear, and scored for Karori. The spell'ended Karori 1, Pukohu nil. Pakeha opened the second spell by attacking! and some fine passing took place.' Osborne sent the ball out to 0. Smith to Jacksoit to Haase to _ Gracie, "the last-named s shot at goal-just-'missing the net. K. Spiers, by his fine defence and hard driving, was saving his side time after time, and shortly after .HaasV'had 'a shot at goal, but tho ball went wide. Karori again lost a good chance to score by off-sido play, a player waiting off-side for tho ball, but the offender was caught by the referee. Pakeha still struggled hard to equalise the score, but' the fino defence by tho Karori backs kept them out. The game thus ended:—Karori, 1; Pakeha, nil. For the winners, K. Spiers, Cole, Picot, and Dyer, and for Pakeha, Gracie, Haase, Osborne, and 0. Smith were the best. On the day's play K. Spiers showed himself to be the liest full-back in the Wednesday competition. Mr. G." Carver was referee.
HTJI MAI A, 3; JIUI MAI B,' 1. . ' The Hui Mai A v. Hni Mai B match was played at Bunpa Street Park. Tho A's had all the west -of- the exchanges,and won by 3 goals to 1. Mr. Bay was referee. BROOKLYN HARRIERS. A.WORD OF FAREWELL. On .Tuesday, evening at. Messrs., Philp and Bishop's tea-rooms, Courtonay Place, mombors.. of, the Brooklyn Harriers assembled -for the purpose of wishing tho club captain, Mr. I'. Wilton, good-bye before lie took his, departure for AVoodville the., following morning. After dinner a number of toasts were honoured. Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., the club's president,- in opening the proceedings, spoke .of tlio services which .Mr. Wilton had rendered the club. The formation of the club was due to Messrs. Wilton and Hodson, the club's present secretary, and ns Mr. Wilton had acted as secretary for the first year ho came in for a great deal of, work. Mr. Wright, in presenting him with a travelling rug, wished him good fortune, and expressed tho hope that their small token of esteem would seTve to remind him of the. old club for which ho had done so much. Mr. Wilton, in replying, thanked members for their present, and said.that although he -inignt,-bo away from the club it was still his intention to remain an active member. Ho also urged tho team to put their best foot forward at tho New Zealand cross country championships, and hoped to sco Brooklyn Harriers on top. , Mr. Philp, the working vice-president, then spoke a few words, as did most of tlie members. ■• . The club's run next Saturday will commence lif Lyall Bay at 2.45 p.m. sharp.
